I started this blog when I was so ill, reading and writing were the only things I could do effectively, okay; maybe I wasn't that effective at first. There is a hugemish mash of various information contained here and it sometimes may seem confusing. All I can say is, I was writing while learning, as I imagine I will continue to do for the rest of my life.
The beginning was in 2004 with a tumor on my ovary, an immature teratoma, which had grown to eight pounds by the time doctors took the pain I was describing seriously. At the time, I was a career orientated, twenty eight year old woman who followed a typical Standard American Diet (SAD).
Surgery and chemotherapy were a given and I do not exaggerate when I say I do not know how I survived the chemo. When it was all suppose to be over, I developed Myelodysplasia, a terminal bone marrow disease, with a 3-5 year prognosis. The treatment was a bone marrow transplant that I had about a 5% chance of surviving.
I decided to try alternative medicine instead. This blog is a collection of a lot of things about what I was going through and thinking about. It is not a how to guide for surviving cancer. I went to many experts in my quest for health, including a 3 week stay at a hospital in Mexico, called Sanoviv.
If you are suffering with any type of ill health, my suggestion is that you consult with a qualified naturopathic physician, an acupuncturist, a massage therapist, and anybody else that you think may be able to help you. Do not be afraid of what people think about your choice to explore natural medicine.
I have been completely fine for nearly four years now. I am a clinical nutritionist, and I do write about nutrition here but I also just blab, vent, explore, and have fun. It's sort of like a diary that I allow everyone to read. I currently disagree with myself about some of the things you may read here.
My current viewpoint on food and nutrition is pretty basic; eat real food. I do have a much shorter list of "foods" that qualify as real though, and I have offended more than one of my friends because they simply asked me if I wanted something to eat and my response to their offering was, "I'd rather go pick dandelions out of your yard and eat those, before I put that in my mouth."
You will not find anything here for sale but in the future, I hope you will consider buying my first book.
I am the San Diego Nutrition Examiner on Examiner.com and I encourage you to visit me there for short and informative articles regarding nutrition news, and the traditional approaches to diet and lifestyle, that I support.

Hello Crystal,
That's a wonderful story you had and it will encourage others that no matter what kind of situation you are, there is always hope, i think that's what made you survive because you never gave up, you did what you had to do and experiment on different alternative medicine.
Thanks for sharing
